Many of the paintings were done outside, on location, "en plein air". This comes with the challenges of changeable weather and shifting shadows, insects, curious onlookers, and the pressure of finishing while the light is good. But the decision to paint from life, however uncomfortable, is one I never regret because the moments spent painting outdoors are inevitably memorable and enjoyable.
